ACADEMY OF THE SACRED HEART

The renovation at the Academy includes the repurposing of two lower school classrooms to house administrative services including the portress, admissions, principal, and school nurse. Previously, these spaces were scattered throughout the expansive 200 year old campus and were often not accessible. Outside, the new landscaping design frames a new portico and memorial patio welcoming students, alumni, and families via a barrier-free, accessible front entrance.

Throughout the design process, great care was taken to include significant details found throughout the campus, frame views from outside of the property, and reflect on the history of this area of campus, previously known as the Rose Garden.

On a personal note: I was honored to work with my alma mater and help them realize one of their longtime needs - a front door. Together, we designed their new entrance as a celebration of the past 200 years of education in St. Charles and in anticipation of the next century to come. Watching a building I came to know intimately in my 10 years as a student transform before our eyes was a very special experience.
