Mill creek RESIDENCE

This new construction residence in the woods is entirely inspired by the oak forest where it will be situated. A subdued, natural palette of concrete, wood, and steel grounds the house in place while turning all attention to the surrounding landscape. The exterior of the home will be wrapped from head to toe in continuous insulation and clad in shou sugi ban. The interior will be clad primarily in plywood.

The interior main floor space consists of a central core of ebonized oak plywood separating more common functions such as dining, kitchen, and living from a connected yet semi-private snug just beyond. The simplified kitchen is complimented by cross ventilation and an elevated main level window seat perch looking out over the private forest.

With the goal of designing a tight, airy, minimalist cottage with sweeping views to the north, every detail was deliberate allowing simple materials to be elevated beyond their traditional usage.
